BP Building Tour: North Colonnade a Net Zero Carbon Project

We are excited to offer a tour and talk at BP’s newly fitted out office in The Cargo Building, 25 North Colonnade, Canary Wharf. 

The project comprised the fit out of approximately 230,000 sqft of commercial office and ancillary space, located over eight floors, and from November 2022, is the new home for over 2,000 BP personnel. 

The Cargo Building comprised the refurbishment and reinvention of an existing 1990s tower, with upgrades including an extension of a podium, reconfiguration of entrances, modification of the building’s core, passenger lifts and shared facilities, including a new ‘market hall’ and events space.

BP convened a specialist team to create an exciting and forward-looking office design, which included tp bennett in the role of interior architects, and Hoare Lea as the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineers; with both collaborating as the project’s joint sustainability team.

In addition to targeting Net Zero Carbon ambitions, the design and fit out of The Cargo Building for BP aimed to be an exemplar workplace for people who identify as neurodivergent.  As part of this process journeys, spaces and experiences were mapped, assessed and refined, considering a number of design factors, including lighting, acoustics, wayfinding and changes in levels of stimulation.

Tp bennett, alongside specialist consultancy IDACS, undertook this aspect of the design for BP.  Chris Webb and Lucy Bagshaw of tp bennett will present key aspects of the design, including learnings and best practice, and how the design of the space aims to better support all employees.
